An amazing tool to inspire students using physical computing, let’s discover together the capabilities of the BBC micro:bit! The BBC micro:bit is a great piece of edtech hardware for teaching and learning physical computing no matter your age. Although primarily aimed at grade school students, ecosystems are springing up and growing around the micro:bit to bring it to all age groups. It’s becoming a powerful tool in the maker education movement. I do not claim to be an expert but a fellow educator excited about the possibilities with this piece of edtech. Let’s go hands on with the micro:bit and it’s great potential. Our session will be done in breakout groups combined with a jigsaw like approach. Each group will examine and play around a function of the BBC micro:bit and share their experience with everyone. Participants will rotate through the micro:bit stations to get hands on with piezo buzzers, controlling LEDs, a Spark Fun robotics kit, a Spark Fun inventor’s kit, and a Monk Makes Electronic Starter Kit. If you have a BBC micro:bit bring it and share your experience with us! If you don't have one, don't worry! We'll have some on hand for you to use. You can't take them home, but by the end of the session you'll probably want to at least buy one for yourself if not a classroom set for your students.
